This checklist summarizes everything that can be helpful for a successful start to your studies and further study planning.

You can prepare by registering for the mentoring program for first-semester degree seeking students or with the participation in subject-related and interdisciplinary introductory events as well as subject related courses (if offered). Also, we invite you to participate in the first semester welcome event of the department 09.

JOGU-StINe is the study information network of JGU. It serves the administration and organization of studies, teaching, examinations and application procedures.

In order to use JOGU-StINe, you must activate your university account. Later on you will also be able to manage it. On the JOGU-StINe info page you will find information and help about JOGU-StINe.

The current certificate of study is made available to you every semester on JOGU-StINe under Service -> Documents. You will need the certificate of study, for example, to apply for BAföG.

System messages can be sent to all participants of a course via JOGU-StINe, e.g. from the study office or the lecturers. Since you will not receive any notification about the receipt of a message in JOGU-StINe, it is recommended to activate the forwarding of JOGU-StINe system messages to your university mail (username@students.uni-mainz.de). This way you will not miss any important information. Remember to check your university mail regularly and use it for all relevant communications!

There are fixed deadlines for registering for courses and exams, which must be adhered to.

The deadline for transferring the semester fee (rematriculation deadline) is July 15 for the winter term and January 15 for the summer term.

By the way: There are no semester breaks, only a lecture-free period during which exams, block seminars or internships can take place.

Learning with electronic and digital media is used to provide lecture materials and exercise sheets, conduct e-exams, and communicate with lecturers.

JGU uses the platforms Ilias and Moodle, among others. Which platform is used for which subject depends on the lecturers and is usually announced in the lecture.

JGU offers InfoDays and orientation days for foreign students.
We are pleased that you have found your way to Mainz and would like to study here. You can find information about your studies and about Mainz on the website of JGU International as well as on the website of our faculty 09 (Incoming section).
Your student ID card also serves as a semester ticket (always for 6 months valid), which allows you to ride buses and trains in the regional transport system of the area of validity.

You need a library card to borrow literature. Borrowing books is also possible with the digital library card in the JGU app.

The student Fachschaft is composed of the entire student body of a subject and elects its members once per semester in the general assembly.

It represents the students to the department. If you have questions or problems, the student Fachschaft is the first point of contact for you as a student.
